Vocational Instructor


This is a programs/academic position. The focus is to create a vocational technical and academic environment that provides inmates the opportunity to maximize their learning potential and achieve or enhance an ability to perform vocational tasks.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

????????? Provides instruction to inmates/detainees for various labor and/or technical skills through classroom instruction, demonstration and practical exercises.

????????? Maintains records including testing, daily offender work, attendance and general record keeping.

????????? Assesses educational needs of inmates, develops lessons plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training.

????????? Administers scores and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.

????????? Counsels students concerning their performance, behavior and personal problems.

????????? Performs moderately complex work involving the care and custody of inmates.? Maintains security and/or order among inmates of the institution through direct supervision.? Responsible for preventing escape and maintaining discipline in conformance with strict rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.?

????????? Subject to performing all essential functions of a Correctional Officer.

????????? Performs other related marginal duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Requirements

????????? Valid teaching certificate from the state Department of Education or comparable authority required (see following exception).

????????? Persons without valid state teacher certification must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and attend 24 clock hours of professional development annually until they have completed six hours of adult education college credit or attained two years of adult education experience (ref. TX Administrative Code, Title 19, Part II, Sub Chp B.89.25)

????????? Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
